Vettel Snatches Drivers' World Championship

Yesterday Sebastian Vettel snatched the Formula 1 Drivers' World Championship out of the hands of Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.

At the start of the weekend there were a total of four drivers who could walk away from Abu Dhabi as the 2010 Formula 1 World Champion (although Hamilton needed something close to a miracle). Fernando Alonso was leading the Championship going to the race, with Mark Webber trailing by 8 points, Sebastian Vettel 15pts behind and Lewis Hamilton 24pts behind.
So, Vettel went on to get pole position in qualifying with Lewis Hamilton behind him, followed by Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and then Mark Webber.

It was an awesome race, Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso both pitted quite early on and as a result they were stuck behind Vitaly Petrov for a majority of the afternoon, this would prove to be the end of both of their Championship hopes.

Sebastian Vettel brought it home in 1st with Lewis and Jenson 2nd and 3rd respectively.
I'm a big Lewis Hamilton and McLaren fan but I was happy that Sebastian Vettel was the champion this year. Yes, it would have been nice to have Lewis win another title but (compared to the Red Bull) the McLaren has been relatively slow this year and he did extremely well to get so many good results. I also HATE Fernando Alonso, not just because of his caterpillar eyebrows but because he's just a genuine douche. Mark Webber is an OK guy but can moan a bit too much and sometimes can take losing very well.

Sebastian Vettel deserved this title in my eyes, I said he would win at the beginning of the season, the way he handled it all towards the end of the season (for such a young guy in F1) was admirable.
I can see him being a title contender in many more seasons.

Admirable drivers this season (Outside of the top 5/6):
  • Robert Kubica: This guy will be a champion someday, if not then a bloody good contender!
  • Nico Rosberg: Highest finisher outside of the top three teams, and beat his teammate (THE Michael Schumacher) by 70 points! He also finisehed just 2pts behind Felipe Massa.
  • Nico Hülkenberg: For his performance in qualifying in Sao Paulo.

Who could have done better? (In my eyes)
  •  Felipe Massa: He really underperformed this season, especially in comparison to Fernando. Maybe that bump on his head hasn't worn off yet.
  • Jenson Button: I like McLaren having an all British team but I dislike that Jenson Button cannot drive well unless the car is almost perfect for him. Lewis manages to get the most out of the car most of the time, whether the setup is good or not he pushes as hard as he can. Jenson just moans about the handling and doesn't appear to push so much.
  • Vitaly Petrov: His drive for next year is in jeopardy and even his good performance in the final race of the season might not be enough to save him. Compared to Kubica he has done shockingly bad this season.

I can't wait for next season now, I just hope McLaren can be strong right from the start of the season. I want to see Lewis grab his second title!

Birthday Blog

So, today is my birthday and I'm spending a small minority of it writing this blog (yes, I'm that cool).
It's just a quickie though (that's what she said).
Lets start at the beginning...

Paul The Movie

It's been a while since I've posted on here, coming soon will be a special post about my first month at Uni. Not sure when this will be, there's quite a bit to talk about so it could be another week yet... but don't worry, it will happen!

Anyway, lets get to the point of this post!

I just seen the trailer for 'Paul' which is a movie coming in Feb of next year (that's 2011) starring Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Yes, I know that's all that really needs to be said but wait! Also starring is Seth Rogen! (voice only) and who doesn't like him?!

Pegg and Frost are the ultimate comedy duo in my eyes, if you don't agree then FUCK YOU!... or just go and watch Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead a couple of more times and then come back. I'm really looking forward to this film (as well as the upcoming Burke and Hare, but more on that another time).

The film follows the lives of two British comic-book geeks (Frost and Pegg) as  they travel across the U.S. One night they get more than they bargained for as they have an encounter with an alien (Seth Rogen) near the infamous Area 51. The alien claims he needs their help, "This is a matter of life and death!". And judging from the trailer it seems they decide to help the chap out. Obviously the geeky duo bump into trouble along the way. Seemingly, Jason Bateman plays some sort of cool agent who is trying to recapture the runaway alien.

It looks like there are quite a few big stars in this movie (seriously, check out the full cast list!), which could make it excellent or it could spoil the Frost-Pegg comedy duo I have come to love from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

However, I'm pretty sure this film will be a success, I fail to see how a Frost-Pegg combo can be anything but hilarious!

Halo: Reach Making News for the Wrong Reasons!

A thread was opened on the 14th by a Halo: Reach buyer reporting that he was having trouble getting his Xbox to read his Halo: Reach disc. In the post he claims that a couple of times his 360 even read the disc as being a 'DVD'.

As time has gone by the thread has grown rapidly and is currently 65 pages long, full of people announcing that they are experiencing the same problem.

It seems the majority of the people saying their copy of Reach will not be read by their Xbox are those who have a 'launch' 360. However, other people with launch units have been able to play the game without problems.
The exact reason for the problems is unclear at the moment but anybody experiencing similar problems has been advised to phone Xbox Customer Support.

Have Bungie not been thorough enough through testing?

F1 2010

Ok so, I'm really excited about this game. I love me some racing games but haven't played any since Forza 2! (Yeh, I played Race Pro but not much). With my love for F1 and racing games this is surely going to be the perfect game for me?

Hamilton & Button Feeling Positive

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have both announced that they are hopeful for next weekends Singapore Grand Prix.
The Singapore track is a relatively low-speed track similar to the hungaroring where McLaren were almost 2 seconds off the pace of the Red Bulls. So why are McLaren so upbeat about Singapore?

Health Forces Spartacus Star to Leave.

Unfortunately my first post on this blog is not good news.
As you may know I am a proud fan of the TV series Spartacus: Blood and Sand and was saddened when I first found out that Season 2 was delayed due to the star actor (Andy Whitfield) being diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer. This led Starz to delay the filming of Series 2 and instead begin on a Prequel Series  (Spartacus: Gods of the Arena) which is due for a January début. Much to mine (and many others) delight Andy was given to go ahead off doctors to commence filming of Series 2.
In recent news it has been announced that the Star has now had to leave the filming of Series 2 due to the recurrence of the cancer.
The statement released by Whitfield and Starz noted that Doctors advised he "immediately resume aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer."
A somewhat emotional statement made by the Starz CEO and President Chris Albrecht shows the admiration shared by everyone who knows Andy or has merely watched him be all he can be in Spartacus:
"Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time, Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength, and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us."
Starz have also stressed that the have not yet made a decision on how to proceed from here, whether they will re-cast, delay the series indefinitely or end it all together is just speculation as of yet.
The prime objective right now though is to ensure Andy undergoes the required treatment and hoping he can shake this beast off once again!
My thoughts are with you Sparty!
